Pumpkin Patch Dirt Cake

Make a Halloween dirt cake full of Halloween colors and pumpkins.  Instant pudding is turned orange and covered with cookie dirt and candy pumpkins for a kid friendly dessert.

I have a confession to make – I’m not very good at Halloween.  For half of my childhood my family didn’t “celebrate” Halloween and it still feels a little strange at times to partake in any type of festivities.  But my husband kids love Halloween and so over the years I’ve been more open to fun Halloween decorations and food.  This year I decided it was time to adventure out in to fun Halloween food.

As it turns out, there is a lot of fun food available just for Halloween, like this super fun Orange Scream milk from TruMoo.  It’s orange and tastes is orange cream flavored.   While a big glass of orange milk is pretty fun for Halloween, I wanted to actually make something with this orange goodness.  I wondered if I could use the TruMoo Orange Scream in place of regular milk  to make a fun Halloween orange pudding.

So I mixed 2 cups of cold TruMoo Orange Scream with 1 package of instant vanilla pudding.  I simply followed the directions on the box and substituted the Orange Scream for regular milk. And it worked!  So now I had this big bowl of super fun orange pudding and I wanted to make it even more festive.  I decided to layer the pudding with some cookie crumbs to get an orange and black treat when it dawned on me that I had the makings of dirt cake.  My kids love dirt cake and a pumpkin patch seemed like a fun idea for Halloween.

I put spread the entire batch of TruMoo Orange Scream pudding in the bottom of a pie plate.

I covered the pudding with chocolate sandwich cookies that I had ground up in to “dirt.”

Then I put pumpkin candy on top of the dirt to make a little pumpkin patch. My kids went nuts over the dirt cake! Some dirt cakes call for cream cheese or whipped cream to be mixed in with the pudding, but I like to keep things simple.
